Where did he learn that?
Acquiring technical skill in a sport is critical for athletes that want to succeed. Athletes and coaches with open and creative minds may have an advantage in this area.
Flipping through a number of matches taking place at this year's Junior World Greco Roman Wrestling Championships I noticed a very interesting situation. It was a match up between USA and Iran at 66 kg. The match was close, with the wrestler from Iran winning. Then out of the blue the USA wrestler did something that was very surprising. Take a look at the video below.
After that situation it was all USA.
I have written a few posts on how athletes learn best. The situation in the video above isn't something a coach or athlete will learn or teach at a wrestling clinic. However, some athletes and coaches will show this type of move at a clinic, calling them clinic moves.
So when do you think, the wrestler in the video was taught this skill or did he just figure it out on his own? I think he figured it out on his own.
